The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a probe into around 454,840 Nissan cars due to reported engine problems causing loss of power and potential inability to restart.
This investigation by the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) involves Nissan Rogue, Altima, and Infiniti Qx50 models, prompted by six complaints detailing engine failure and related issues.
Concerns raised by vehicle owners include engine failure, loss of power, abnormal engine noises, and the discovery of metal debris in the oil pan, specifically in vehicles equipped with KR15DDT and KR20DDET engines, as outlined by ODI.
Nissan has taken steps to address engine problems such as main bearing and L-link damage or seizures by implementing various manufacturing changes over time, according to the regulator.
