The United States has scrapped a $29 million initiative intended to strengthen Bangladesh’s political landscape as part of broader budget cuts by the Trump administration.
The decision was announced on Sunday by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, according to India Today.
The funding cut is part of a wider rollback of US financial support for international development projects. Several other countries, including India and Nepal, are also affected. A $21 million program designed to boost voter participation in India’s elections has similarly been canceled, as announced by DOGE on social media platform X.
The move signals a reassessment of US foreign aid priorities, with a focus on reducing spending on international political and governance programs.
