Tesla has slashed prices on three of its electric vehicles (EVs) in the US: Model Y, Model X, and Model S, which are now priced $2,000 lower each, according to an official announcement.
Model Y’s base variant now costs $42,990, with long-range and performance variants priced at $47,990 and $51,490, respectively. Model S basic version is now $72,990, while its plaid variant is $87,990. Model X’s base variant is priced at $77,990, with its plaid variant at $92,900.
Tesla North America announced it will terminate its referral program benefits across all markets after April 30. The program provides additional incentives through referrals, a traditional sales strategy.
Elon Musk’s planned trip to India, where he was to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and announce South Asian market plans, has been postponed. Reuters reported on Monday that the EV maker is cutting over 10% of its global workforce.
Reuters also reported the cancellation of Tesla’s long-promised inexpensive car, expected at $25,000, which investors hoped would drive mass-market growth.
Despite price cuts, Tesla’s global vehicle deliveries fell for the first time in nearly four years in the first quarter.
