The government has raised the maximum retail price (MRP) of bottled soybean oil by Tk 14 per litre, setting it at Tk 189, in a move likely to impact household budgets already strained by high living costs.
The price of loose soybean oil has also been increased, now fixed at Tk 169 per liter.
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin announced the revised pricing structure at a press conference on Tuesday following a meeting with domestic edible oil refiners and traders held at the Secretariat.
The decision comes as refiners and importers cited rising costs in the international market and fluctuations in the exchange rate. Tuesday’s adjustment marks the latest in a series of price revisions in the edible oil sector in recent years.
Officials said the pricing review was based on international benchmarks, stock levels, and import costs. No immediate statement was made regarding potential future changes, but the government said it would continue monitoring global and domestic market trends.
