Social Islami Bank PLC (SIBL) has donated Tk 3.6 million to Dhaka University to fund scholarships for underprivileged students with special needs.

According to a press release, SIBL Chairman Professor Dr M Sadiqul Islam handed the cheque over to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan at a ceremony on Friday (February 28).

Key dignitaries, including SIBL’s Acting Managing Director, Md Nazmus Saadat, attended the event, which was held at the Dhaka University Alumni Association’s Alumni Floor.

Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan praised SIBL’s continued support for students despite financial setbacks. “Their presence here is a testament to their dedication to the well-being of students,” he said.

Professor Dr M Sadiqul Islam reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to social responsibility, stressing that financial difficulties should not hinder education. He urged the Alumni Association to establish a dedicated fund for underprivileged students and assured the bank’s ongoing support.

Md Nazmus Saadat highlighted the bank’s efforts to regain stability after a period of financial turmoil. He also called for collective action against corruption and commended the Alumni Association’s initiatives.

Scholarship recipient Zakaria, a student of Bijoy Ekattor Hall, expressed gratitude for the assistance, stating that it keeps students’ hopes alive. “I aim to help other underprivileged students in the future, In sha’a Allah,” he said.
