More than 1,000 workers at Samsung Electronics’ factory near Chennai, India, have entered the second month of their strike, rejecting a settlement offer from the company.
The workers who produce home appliances are demanding higher wages and official recognition of their union. Despite Samsung’s offer of a monthly incentive and other benefits, the union, supported by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), has vowed to intensify the strike until their demands are met.
The ongoing strike has disrupted production at the facility, which accounts for a significant portion of Samsung’s sales in India.
