The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has started a new collaboration with the South Asia Center for Media in Development to empower women and other groups in Bangladesh by enhancing digital safety.
This initiative addresses the increasing risks of online harassment and misinformation vulnerable populations face.
The signing ceremony was held at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Dhaka, in the presence of Head of Mission Andre Carstens, Senior Policy Advisor Namia Akhtar, and other high officials from the Embassy and SACMID.
The project will be implemented in Cumilla, Sirajganj, and Khulna, building on SACMID’s recent work in Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Brahmanbaria. This project on combatting misinformation and disinformation sparked by digital and social media platforms in Bangladesh raised awareness and enhanced digital skills.
The project is strategically designed to empower media professionals, women, girls, and marginalized communities by fostering safe, inclusive digital spaces and promoting digital literacy.
In his remarks, Head of Mission Andre Carstens emphasized the Netherlands’s commitment towards gender equality and freedom of expression for all communities in Bangladesh.
