The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has established a seven-member taskforce to reform Bangladesh’s income tax law. The committee, led by Tax Commissioner Ikhtiar Uddin Mohammad Mamun, aims to create a more user-friendly environment for individuals and businesses.
The task force is charged with analyzing existing income tax laws, related regulations, and statutory orders to identify areas for improvement. As noted in an NBR announcement released at the end of September, they will assess the implications of enforcing specific provisions and regulations under the current income tax law.
Additionally, the committee will review the tax exemptions granted by the NBR across various sectors and provide recommendations for reform. Md Mohidul Islam Chowdhury, a joint commissioner of taxes and a task force member, emphasized the importance of engaging both internal and external stakeholders in the reform process, stating, “We will hold meetings with internal and external stakeholders.”
This initiative reflects the NBR’s commitment to modernizing the tax framework in Bangladesh, enhancing compliance, and supporting economic growth.
