Grameenphone, a leading telecommunications operator, has announced its commitment to reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.
According to a statement released by the mobile phone operator, the company plans to use its 2019 emissions as the baseline for measuring progress toward this target.
In an effort to achieve this goal, Grameenphone has already converted approximately 1,200 towers into sites powered by solar energy, particularly in remote areas. This move is seen as a crucial step towards creating a more environmentally friendly future.
By adopting solar power, the company aims to significantly decrease carbon dioxide emissions resulting from its operations while also addressing the issue of electricity supply.
Yasir Azman, the CEO of Grameenphone, expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative during the ‘Green Energy Ecosystem in Bangladesh’ event held at GP House in Dhaka.
