Officials revealed that the government aims to secure over $5 billion in foreign funds for 15 infrastructure and livelihood projects.
A committee led by Economic Relations Division Secretary Shahriar Kader Siddiky will review the preliminary project proposals next week before approaching development partners for financial support.
The projects include upgrading the Faridpur-Barishal and Barishal-Kuakata highways, connecting Payra Seaport to the Asian Highway-1 and SAARC Corridor. $2.13 billion is sought from international financiers for these projects.
The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education seeks $1.82 billion for its Smart Primary Education Development Programme (SPEDP), which targets inclusive and resilient primary education.
Dhaka Wasa seeks $365 million for a sewerage system in Mirpur, while $250 million is being sought for the Universal Pension System. Additionally, $135 million is needed for climate-smart agricultural projects and $107 million for improved weather and water information services. The committee will review funding sources and suggest alternatives if necessary.
