The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) announced plans to establish ‘Minimum Energy Performance Standards’ (MEPS) for LED lamps to enhance energy efficiency and reduce electricity consumption.
MEPS sets minimum energy performance requirements for appliances and equipment before commercial use.
The initiative was revealed at a workshop titled “Minimum Energy Performance Standards for LEDs and Luminaries,” jointly organized by BSTI and US-based non-profit Clasp at The Westin Dhaka last Thursday.
Industry experts and LED manufacturers highlighted MEPS’ role in promoting high-quality, energy-efficient lighting solutions aligned with Bangladesh’s sustainable energy goals.
Maqsura Noor, additional secretary to the Ministry of Industries, attended as the chief guest, alongside BSTI officials.
