Brazil will host the BRICS leaders’ summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 6 and 7, foreign minister of the country, Mauro Vieira announced on Saturday.
As the current BRICS chair, Brazil is leading preparations for the summit, bringing together heads of state and government from the bloc’s full members and partners. The announcement followed Vieira’s meeting with Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes.
“We will welcome the heads of state from the 20 countries that are full members and partners of BRICS, where we will make important decisions on development, cooperation, and improving living conditions,” Vieira said, according to Xinhua.
The decision builds on Rio de Janeiro’s successful hosting of the G20 Leaders’ Summit last November. Paes, who has established a commission to oversee the event’s organization, said the summit would enhance international relations and promote cultural, trade, and tourism exchanges.
