Bangladesh’s Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) has floated tenders for two additional spot LNG cargoes for March 9-10 and March 15-16 delivery windows to address growing energy demand during Ramadan.
The company, a subsidiary of Petrobangla, has already called for bids and is awaiting evaluations. If successful, Bangladesh will secure a total of three spot LNG cargoes for March, after having earlier awarded a tender to Total Energies Gas and Power Limited for March 5-6 delivery at $16.43 per MMBTu.
RPGCL had previously canceled two spot LNG cargo tenders for March 10-11 due to high price bids and low participation. The government aims to procure four spot LNG cargoes in total for March to meet increased energy requirements during Ramadan and the irrigation-intensive summer months.
Each of the newly sought LNG cargoes will carry around 3.36 million MMBTu and will be delivered at Moheshkhali island in the Bay of Bengal, where Bangladesh’s two floating storage re-gasification units (FSRUs) are located.
In addition to spot purchases, Bangladesh continues to import LNG under long-term contracts from Qatargas and OQ Trading International to maintain supply stability.
