Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved a Tk 8 trillion budget for Bangladesh for the fiscal year 2024-25. The budget, scheduled to be presented in the parliament on June 6, was confirmed by sources within the Finance Ministry, reported UNB.

In alignment with the current fiscal year’s priorities, the Prime Minister emphasized that controlling inflation will be a top priority in the upcoming budget.

She also advocated for discouraging the import of luxury goods, a measure to maintain economic stability. The PM expressed satisfaction that the budget allocation reflects the objectives outlined in the election manifesto.

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting at Ganobhaban on Monday that highlighted several key focus areas. These include inflation control, foreign direct investment (FDI), import control, development projects, revenue collection, expatriate income, and social security programs.

Several key figures attended the meeting, including Planning Minister Major General (Retd) Abdus Salam, State Minister of Finance Waseqa Ayesh Khan, State Minister of Planning Md. Shahiduzzaman, Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rauf Talukdar, and National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md.

Rahmatul Muneem, Finance Secretary Dr. Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, and senior officials from the finance and planning divisions participated in the meeting via an online facility. Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali also participated.
