Apple has launched Final Cut Pro 11, a significant update to its flagship video editing software for Mac. This update introduces cutting-edge AI features and capabilities tailored for spatial video editing.
These updates promise to streamline video editors’ workflows while pushing the boundaries of creativity and accessibility.
The new release highlights two advanced AI tools designed to save time and improve precision for video editors:
Magnetic Mask: This tool allows editors to automatically isolate subjects in a video clip without requiring green screens or rotoscoping. Powered by Apple’s Neural Engine, the Magnetic Mask analyzes real-time video frames, enabling precise background adjustments, effects, and color adjustments.
Transcribe to Captions: This feature leverages Apple’s large language model and generates closed captions directly within the timeline. Simplifying captioning enhances accessibility while reducing the time spent on transcription.
These features join an existing suite of AI tools in Final Cut Pro, such as Smart Conform for social media formats, Enhance Light and Color, Smooth Slo-Mo, and Voice Isolation.
Spatial Video Editing for Vision Pro
A standout feature of Final Cut Pro 11 is its new support for spatial video editing, developed specifically for use with the Apple Vision Pro. Editors can import spatial video footage captured on devices like the iPhone 16 or Canon EOS R7, adjust depth and effects, and preview left- and right-eye perspectives within the timeline.
Apple plans to roll out additional spatial video capabilities later this year, including a panoramic Mac Virtual Display. This feature will provide editors with an ultra-wide curved screen, equivalent to two side-by-side 5K monitors, further enhancing the editing experience for spatial video projects.
