Amazon has introduced an upgraded version of its voice assistant, Alexa+, incorporating generative AI for enhanced functionality.
Amazon’s devices and services chief, Panos Panay, described the new Alexa+ as a “complete re-architecture.” It offers deeper integration with users’ schedules, smart home setups, and personal preferences.
The AI-powered assistant features visual understanding, allowing it to analyze video feeds through a device’s camera and respond contextually. Alexa+ is also tightly connected with Amazon’s smart home ecosystem, enabling voice commands for music playback, Fire TV navigation, and other functions across compatible devices.
Amazon positions Alexa+ as a productivity tool, allowing users to upload files and documents that the assistant can process and reference later.
The service will be available as a free benefit for Prime members or at $19.99 per month for non-Prime users.
