Bangladesh celebrated the opening of a groundbreaking solar power plant with a generating capacity of 200 megawatts (MW).
The Teesta Solar Ltd plant was established by Beximco Power Ltd., representing the country’s highest renewable energy-focused power generation capacity at a single facility.
A substantial investment of $300 million was dedicated to setting up the plant, which occupies an impressive 650-acre area in Sundarganj upazila of the northwestern Gaibandha district.
The new solar power plant is expected to contribute 200 MW of electricity to the national grid daily.
This significant milestone in renewable energy was confirmed in a press statement by Shafiqul Islam, the Public Relations Officer of the adviser to the prime minister on private industries and investment.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Rangpur Zilla School premises, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present.
Notably, the plant had already begun trial operations in December of the previous year.
A sukuk is a financial certificate following Islamic principles, similar to a treasury bond, designed to generate returns compliant with Islamic finance standards.
The inauguration of this 200MW solar power plant marks a significant step towards achieving sustainable and clean energy solutions in Bangladesh, showcasing the country’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and embracing renewable resources.
