In recognition of their substantial contributions to the country’s export and trade endeavors in 2022, 184 businesspeople in Bangladesh have been bestowed with the esteemed Commercially Important Person (CIP) status.
Ahasanul Islam Titu, the state minister for commerce, presented CIP crests to the deserving recipients at a ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka.
Among the honored individuals, 140 were granted CIP status for their remarkable achievements in export across 18 of the 22 designated export sectors.
The remaining 44 were acknowledged for their pivotal roles as leaders within local trade bodies, reflecting their commitment to fostering economic growth and prosperity.
The recognized export sectors encompass a diverse array of industries, including raw jute, frozen foods, woven garments, pharmaceuticals, and handicrafts, to name a few.
Notably, no awards were conferred within the tea sector due to failure to meet stipulated criteria, as outlined by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
To identify deserving recipients, a rigorous evaluation process spanning 20 categories and assessing 328 applications was conducted. Criteria considered during the selection process included compliance with tax obligations, export volume and value, expansion into new markets, and responsible borrowing and loan repayment practices.
CIP status recipients will enjoy a host of privileges for one year, including the issuance of CIP cards and access to various facilities. These benefits encompass priority seat reservation on government transport, invitations to national events, access to VIP lounges at airports, and the privilege of entering the secretariat.
